I get that you guys don’t agree, but that you can’t see her point is ridiculous. I am Black, female & probably qualify as the working poor on my own. A recent cost of living increase just put me over $15 an hour.
I’ve found that I “can’t” discuss race with most people. I’m a type II albino and a Black woman and most non Black folks assume I am biracial. They assume it with a fierceness that they won’t let go - yes, my skin, hair & eyes are light - but my features are thick, broad and not Europeanish. My hair doesn’t know what…
It was a beautiful and moving ode to someone who is gone.
You are right - lots of schools don’t do shit. Including the one in this story. They didn’t punish the girl - the boy’s parent called the police - probably because the school wouldn’t do shit.
The “keep your hands to yourself” is pushed pretty hard in K-2nd grade. Apparently some 12 year olds need a refresher course. Ass pinching isn’t cute & if it is normal in that school - they need to knock it off. She didn’t even know this kid to determine if he was ok with this so called game.
I’ll be taking my husband’s name when we marry & that discussion took about 10 seconds. He wants me to and he comes from a culture where family identity kind of trumps individual identity.
