Games art, as for concept, is in some ways an advertising piece, and if you're talking about the actual game objects, they need to look and act as though they actually function. Concept art needs to capture a specific look and feel; there's almost less room for artistic license

It you're just doing simple 2D platforming and such, there are several easier programs to use, like Fusion. Unity can handle 2d, but it's far better suited for 3d, and if you don't need many of the advanced functions, Fusion can handle a lot of what you may need.
