Eh, there are some good arguments for DC statehood that stand on their own, but some of these are laughably transparent. The one about how it’s larger than some other states, for example. There are a number of cities in highly populous states that are larger than DC that somehow manage to get by without having two

The better argument for DC statehood is that they deserve representation and that no state wants to incorporate the city into it’s borders entirely.

Just admitting that you’re desensitized to white terrorism. More people have been killed by white, right wing violence since 9/11.

Eh, I doubt it.

Lots of people crowdfund for stuff they could afford because it will crimp their lifestyle.

I think you want both public and private investment. Seems like that’s a clear lesson we should have learned from the 20th century.

Huh, wild. Either way she could pay for it I’m sure.

Don’t really care about Space X, Musk has always struck me as someone who thinks he’s a polymath when really he’s just a very smart engineer with an engineer’s sensibilities about the rest of society. Clearly he’s smarter than most of us, but even from a purely capitalistic perspective, he makes questionable choices

If they are “a dime a dozen” then why aren’t there tens of thousands more of these types of mass shootings? There are only a few dozen that rise to this level every year.

You’ll note that my proposed solution is exactly what those other countries are suggesting. The US and EU should, rather than force pharmaceutical companies to act, just pay them more to act quickly.

Some of the debate is about letting some of those countries help themselves by expanding the manufacture of the vaccine.

I think the bulk of her net worth is from her equity in her business. Which isn’t even “stocks” in the sense that you could pull up your Robinhood app and see the price and estimate a net worth for Jenner based on the size of her stake. It’s a private business.  She’s worth something, maybe even more than a billion

I’m sure plenty of these people are political but keep in mind that there are also a lot of people who don’t participate in our political process and most of them don’t do it because they conscientiously object to the politics of both parties so vehemently they can’t bring themselves to vote. A lot of them do it

I lived and voted in a rural Deep South district in a different state where a lot of Republicans run unopposed for various offices. Doesn’t mean you have to vote for them.

As a black person raised in the rural Deep South, when I say sprinkled, I mean sprinkled. In Georgia, there are enclaves of black people outside of Atlanta, but the bulk of black voters in Georgia are in the Atlanta area.

Saying there hasn’t been equal investment is not the same as saying there is no investment.

Maybe. There’s been a lot of investment in the women’s game, and while it’s popularity has grown, it’s not ever consistently started to close the gap.

You could say that for anything though...by that logic you could say that you could successfully blackmail someone for habitually speeding or habitually drinking or habitually doing rolling stops or habitually gunning through yellow lights or habitually not using turn signals.

But it’s an uphill climb even if every single House Democrat supports the resolution: two-thirds of the House would have to vote in favor, and the current partisan split makes this an impossible feat. It doesn’t help that the most powerful Democrat in the House doesn’t support the legislation either.

Look, I get it, we’re in a weird stage where social norms are relaxing, some states are relaxing, and federal prosecution is waning.  Most people don’t care, it’s true.
