“Few members of Congress ran on ‘defund the police’ as a slogan—if any, I’m still looking for any evidence of someone who did. But we know the Republicans will take all kinds of slogans and use them against us. We know socialism was used against Teddy Roosevelt and every president after him. The question is what is

Yes, Cruz would have won them. Cruz was already on his way to winning them. Cruz was, in some respects, proto-Trump with more $10 words. Republicans didn’t want him to win the primary in 2010, but he outflanked David Dewhurst (a George Bush Texas Republican) on the right by pandering to rank nativism. The fact that

If the Republican primary in 2016 had worked out differently Ted Cruz would have beat Hilary, probably would have beaten whoever won the Democratic primary in 2020 given that America sure seems to like continuity for as long as it can have it if the leadership isn’t too chaotic.

People do not get free grad school anywhere on the planet unless they qualify for scholarship or some other kind of program! Now one policy option I would say should exist for people who borrow heavily to go to grad school and then hit a massive financial crisis would be making student loan debt dischargeable.

Operation Warp Speed did it’s job, but that isn’t some grand credit to Donald Trump. At a bare minimum, even a child president would have figured out a way to speed vaccine research along, and it’s worth remembering that the basic research done in years past for other potential pandemics is what has made actual

If you are “solidly middle class” then I don’t disagree that you should qualify for at least some relief.

Actually I have 50k in student debt, but keep on making shit up because you can’t refute the substance of my argument fuckface.

Conservative?  Nope, fuck off.

Any info on the pay disparity between white male “food critics” with similar experience gaps as what they have? I’m guessing that doesn’t exist, as that’s a pretty niche job in this day and age.

Someone who’s screen name is a Wheel of Time reference is pontificating about good taste? Did you tug your braid for good measure after this comment?

Oh fucking please, I am totally fine with forgiveness that is actually targeted at the people most “burdened” by student loan debt. The point is that when you actually wind through the details to find those people, the number of $1.6 trillion shrinks dramatically.

This isn’t about “righteous feelings”. This is about the fact that broad student loan debt forgiveness exacerbates, rather than alleviates inequality. And also that it’s actually weak stimulus since the net effect is only that of the debt service, which doesn’t actually impact the spending of people who make a lot of

“60% is made by higher earners” and a portion of the rest are people who are not “higher earners” because they’ve just graduated or are still in school and who are definitely going to become those high earners. Vast majority, yes.

Because the bulk of people who owe student loan debt don’t owe crushing amounts of debt.

The argument about broad debt forgiveness being stimulus is the weakest one. Any student debt relief needs to be much more targeted if you want it to have any stimulative effect.

Maybe, and I’m just spitballing here, there’s a more sane way to do this?

No, it’s not, and you’re dismissed for pretending otherwise.

Again, that’s an obtuse understanding so you can get on your little soapbox. I understand that “lawful” definition can stretch. The point is that ending forever wars boils down to the choices of the President and Congress, and if we want to sway those choices we have to do it with electoral pressure.

Don’t be an obtuse fuckwit.

This is all a bunch of wasted words. Trying to “force” Biden to the left by himself will failBiden has always moved with the gravity center of the party.
