RE the infrastructure point, Game Pass is also on other devices besides PC and Xbox. I can open up the app on my phone and play a Game Pass game which I don’t have installed on either my Xbox or PC immediately. So the streaming infrastructure is there for MS (I imagine through in-house Azure?).

I think MS is too far ahead for Sony to catch up. As you mention they are already slow moving and for them to commit to a subscription service to compete with MS they would have to start throwing a lot of money around to make it so to try to catch up at this point.
