Not sure I understand your “gaming pads don’t copy anything from reality” comment. Game pads take the best aspects of “real things” and is now it’s own, real, multipurpose tool. Which is why it is also used in many other industries which aren’t the military or gaming.

Xbox controllers are being used in a lot of other fields and industries though, not including the military, because they are effective, reliable, comfortable, affordable and easily replaceable.

Military uses a joystick for military applications.

How is this different than a drone pilot sitting in a room, looking at a screen using a joystick (which was used by the military before it was used in gaming, wasn’t it)?
