I don’t disagree that the tax system is a mess; the article was about how to best go about getting your taxes done.  And you didn’t address my point about the things that IRS could have NO idea about, namely everything you ever claim as an expense.  Do you CARE about deductions?

Oh come on now. There are many things that are NOT automatically sent to the IRS that must be entered by the only person who knows what they are, which is you. Charitable contributions, medical costs, non reimbursed work expenses, etc all must be done by hand.
