He obviously is much loved so I’ll take your advice and see if I can break through. I just sometimes feel like his stuff is weird for the sake of weird.

I can’t tell if this guy just has a really bad trolling schtick or if he’s got serious mental issues. Which means he actually might have a really good trolling schtick.

I’ve tried to get into him but I just can’t. I’ve made it through Mulholland Drive but didn’t like it, and lasted ten minutes into Eraserhead before getting annoyed. Also, Dune is garbage and while he tries to blame it on not having final cut I can’t see how anything could fix it.

I tried to read JR but found it unreadable. It’s one of those books where you’re never given any introduction to your setting or characters and have to piece everything together - I don’t need to be spoonfed anything but throw me a bone here. I’m not one to shy away from challenging books, and I would even say I make

Can’t they just show all the film’s images in, like, rapid succession?

“I didn’t like how Jared Leto portrayed his character and now people want to kill trans women” is like some Alex Jones level synapse misfiring.

It feels like the contributors here have no idea how to talk about race anymore. “The show is good because they’re not all white” is not a particularly compelling endorsement.

Bon Iver’s album had one okay song - Skinny Love. The rest of it was a dreary hipster snoozefest. How that was Grammy worthy is beyond me.

Sorry, but when your point is that Jared Leto’s performance put trans women in danger its hard to take you seriously. It’s an objectively idiotic statement.

Fair comment. I mainly find with King (and Gaiman too) is that all their characters, even the “bad guys”, sound like hokey, salt of the earth, wid-west caricatures who will tell you their life story immediately. Its like everyone in the novel grew up in the same county in Wisconsin.

My main issue with King is that his stories drown in his corny and unconvincing dialogue. It seems like every character is weirdly chatty, and uses quaint colloquialisms that King clearly just made up on the spot. And he admits in his book On Writing he doesn’t outline, and just sits down and writes whatever comes

I think calling King “gifted” is pushing it. I read a lot of King as a teen and into my early twenties and was really drawn to his bizarre ideas and interesting plots. But I tried to read him again lately, both his older and contemporary stuff, and I realized he is a terrible, terrible writer but I didn’t know any

If the Wikipedia entry for “cankles” is missing a photo I’m pretty sure we can use hers.

I just read American Gods and got the same impression from Gaiman’s writing. He generally doesn’t bother to say if a character is white, but if a character is not white we know about it in the first sentence they’re introduced.

King can get a bit cringe with his portrayal of black characters. Most notably that every character that is white is presumed to be white but when they’re not they’re identified as not-white, so even if the character is just pumping gas its important we know they’re a black gas jockey.

sigh, the 2000's really were a dumb, awful decade. Want proof? Go look at any “best of ” the decade playlist on spotify. The 2000's has about a 4-1 ratio of shit to good songs.

Pedos are one of the most irreformable category of criminals, and are often the most manipulative and devious. This is a good example. I can’t *know* this commenter is attracted to minors, but if I was placing bets I’d say he was, and his reasoning shows how horrendous these people are. They can rationalize their

That’s really the nub, eh? You see people on twitter who call themselves minor attracted persons and I get the vibe he’s one of them. I just can’t see how anyone would suggest that using age as a determining factor for why you shouldn’t screw a kid is “lazy at best”. Think about that. Saying an adult shouldn’t get

“Perpetuating discrimination” and “encouraging negative outcomes” are extremely debatable allegations given what we’re talking about. Did Jared Leto winning an Oscar portraying a trans women discriminate against trans people and create negative outcomes for them? That’s an absurd allegation. You’re using unfounded

Screech was too cartoonish to import into this. I can’t see his place, unless you were going for the gritty post-modern treatment, which they’re not.
