Bingo. This has been their model since PS1. CD, DVD, blu ray, now hopefully UHD.

38 million PS4 sales proves your market approach wrong. They launched at the right time. The PS3 was 8 years old.

For games maybe. I think their selling point will be a UHD disk player, media streamer. This has been their business model aince the inception of PlayStation, supporting the latest disk/media format. Now that UHD had been finalized they could do this.

I don't get the hate. Well actually I do. Commenters on the internet prefer to bitch. This is a good move by Sony. I own a PS4 now and I'll gladly but the PS4k too.

But your argument is invalid if the PS4K will not segment its user base and play PS4 games. This is a good move for Sony and seems, so far, to be consumer friendly.

You are absolutely right. I’ve been trying to get that point across in other comments below. I bought my PS4 day one and will buy the PS4K day one once it comes out. I could use my old one with another tv. Now that 4K tvs are mainstream it makes perfect sense for Sony to retool and have their number one selling…

Also they are keeping their product line fresh. Many 4K tvs sold in the last 3 years. They can spur sales by supporting this newly mainstream format. Sales translate to revenues which lead to investments in future gaming tech for consumers. I really don’t understand the hate on this. I think it’s great.
