The system is broken; companies are literally not allowed to do what is ethical if it reduces profits. They’re bound to increase shareholder value as the sole purpose of existence. Until that fiduciary responsibility is removed, nothing will change.

You’re not supposed to tell people how risk-averse to be, it can typically be inferred. If someone is, say, on a very tight budget they need to make a safe bet. Absolutely an anecdotal example, but there are enough anecdotes out there that would argue a risk-averse consumer should avoid a first model year vehicle. A lot of these superstitions aren’t warranted but this specific one has some credibility, especially for more luxurious or high-tech models.
