This is where we patiently await the hacking community to crack this thing open for patches.

I love watching someone super-skilled run these, but I can’t stand watching someone grind on them, much less even thinking about attempting them myself.

I absolutely love that Devolver bought mechamericagreatagain.com for this.

This keeps looping and I just keep getting more annoyed by the bald guy behind them.

If it’s going to change, it will probably have to organically. I’m old enough to remember when the “shooter” genre was specifically what we now call the “shoot ‘em up” or “shmup” genre until FPS/TPS kind of took it over. For a long time I also associated the term “gamer” with board games.

Holy crap, how have I avoided hearing 4X until now?  I mean, I’ve definitely heard strategy, turn-based strategy, war sim, simulation, and probably more I’m not thinking of.

I grabbed it on Switch and it’s great on the go, even if you suck at it!

I’m surprised Rahxephon was left off. It’s been criticized as a “rip off” of Eva, but it’s pretty tightly put together and gorgeous.

I love that game too!  Even though I’m not good enough at it.

Bloodstained ignores the modern conventions of these games, as well as their conveniences, like swift, speedy movement and the ability to strike in directions other than right in front of you. Their absence makes Bloodstained feel like Symphony of the Night, but also reminds you that Symphony of the Night is 24 years

Here’s my review:

This! Just because the game gives you options, it doesn’t require you to delve completely into all of them if they’re not your cup of tea. Personally, in these types of games, I end up enjoying grinding for more stuff.

The tragedy of it all is that with his proportions, he could have been a much better swimmer than walker!

On a broader note, jumping is just fun.

I got what you meant, I even agree with the sentiment, I just think “shallow” feels like too strong of a term? Maybe “focused” would be more fitting?

I was worried in the early days of the Kickstarter, and the early demos weren’t terribly exciting-looking, but they really pulled it off in the end. Game is gosh darn fun.

I wouldn’t call it shallow, especially when comparing it to other action games of the time, or even just the action mode of part 1.

Unpopular opinion: Actraiser 2 was a great game that did some interesting and unique things with the player character’s moveset, what with the wings and all.

Uh, I don’t think anyone would say “plot point,” but she was always noticeably bustier than the other women in the game.

I can’t wait to see Red XIII in disguise in a Shinra uniform.
