I'd have to agree. EVERYTHING about the car says "japanese": the engine, suspension, interior, design all say "japanese"

Megasquirt is NOT free software! Nor is it techincally open source! Bowling and Grippo own the hardware and software. There's a good reason for this: they can't be expected to support eleventy billion different permutations of their software, hardware, etc.
