Sadly, trucks have far looser standards than cars do, so they “get away” with a lot more... not that I think that sort of thing (in the picture) is in the least bit okay.
I imagine you’ll get a patch to turn off the cheat mode and then when the inevitable class-action suit hits, you’ll get a check for the damages caused by inflated mileage/durability/etc claims similar to what happened when Hyundai overstated mileage claims.
And those recalls were for minor items. I own a GTI (gas engine; we don’t get the GTD in the US and now will not likely ever get it, or not for a long time now) and it’s had a couple of recalls, but none of those were because the car is illegal to register. You aren’t going to be barred from registering over, say, a…
Nope. Clusters have the wrong units on the dials, headlights have the wrong beam pattern, lighting and reflectors are present/absent in the wrong places.
They’re getting that 50+ mpg by violating federal law. It’s easy to return amazing numbers when you’re doing it by illegal means.
May be exempt from state emissions rules, but still isn’t legal to sell under federal law, which pre-empts state law.
The cars in question do not have urea additive tanks.
One of the main ingredients in AdBlue is uric acid, which is indeed found in large amounts in urine. AdBlue isn’t actually made from recycled cow urine (or any other urine), though.
Actually, it’s simple enough: drive around a track and use a roadside testing station to sample the emissions and discover that they are between ten and forty times higher than the maximum permitted by law. No code audit required.
You can’t say that because the diesels you point fingers at were illegally sold as they do not pass federal requirements and so are not legal to sell in a single US state. So no, VW can’t bring those cars in either. They committed a criminal act almost half a million times by selling them as every sale is a separate…
Bernie Taupin, writing for Elton John, had it right:
A car's trunk is not called a 5th door. But by either definition, the xB has four doors you enter and exit through, so this is not the first four-door Scion has offered.
Hubby has a 2012 Jetta TDI (the Golf, sadly, was inexplicably much pricier, so out of our budget) and he drives a lot for his work. He's got a lot of miles on it already. I wouldn't be surprised if it could last that long.
Warranty length on just about anything is far shorter than the length of time that many people keep cars. I have a GTI that would have no warranty left were it not for a recall that extended the transmission warranty until 2017.
Mine renewed yesterday. I don't think I can do that. :( Or can I?

So? Those of us who are disabled need those protections, and people who stick their fingers in their ears and say "you're faking it, no, I won't help you" make life miserable for those who need the help. Take the extra few minutes to be compassionate.
So their answer to seeing someone illegally using a cell while driving is ... illegally use a cell while driving.
Actually, a handgun isn't accurate beyond ten yards or so unless you're a really, really good shot, and at especially night, especially if the fleeing car isn't moving in a perfectly straight line (torque steer, panicked driver, etc), you're not that likely to manage to hit the driver. Even if you have night sights on…
