I think you are narrowing the context of his tweet to a specific instance which Smith does not mention.
But, even in that context, its a stupid comment. For one, it ignores the fact that many people are actively working to combat the violence in America, including black-on-black crime - while the Republican response…
Saying that we have focused too much on terrorism is not the same thing as minimizing the loss of life under the rationale that “they do it to themselves, too, so we shouldn’t care”.
If, after 9/11, someone had said “what are Americans bitching about? Americans kill Americans every day”, what would you think of that person?
