It’s pretty clearly both.

That’s a fair counterpoint.  I guess I figured the number of people waiting a few hours to watch it would outweigh the number of people who watched it live, but evidently I was wrong.  My fault.

It’s not just news here, though-reviews, opinions, “nice price or crack pipe” games, etc. And the timeliness of it certainly isn’t critical in my opinion. If it’s >8 hours past the race, then it’s my own fault for not having the time to watch. If it’s an overseas race, it seems like holding a recap story until Sunday

Live and learn, I suppose.  Evidently I’m pretty clearly in the wrong here, so I’ll be quiet.  I guess my general “avoid the internet” Sunday routine failed me this time, or I successfully scrolled past the previous F1 recaps.  Apologies for complaining, I just thought I’d have a lot of people in agreement with me,

Is it so unreasonable to ask that you guys wait until Sunday evening or something?  It’s not like people come to Jalopnik looking for a results post, so it seems like it’d be fine to delay it a little in my book.  I’ve never noticed you guys post so quickly after the race before, so I figured Jalopnik was safe

In general I do a good job of avoiding them, but I just didn’t expect it to be here so quickly after the race.  It doesn’t seem unreasonable to me to ask them to wait until Sunday evening or something-it’s not like people are coming here *looking* for the results, after all.

Did you really need to spoil this <1 hour after the end of the race?  I was about to start my DVR recording, and of course stumbled across this...

Also, it’s nowhere near a universal rule that 5.8GHz will penetrate further than 2.4GHz-generally the opposite is true.  Super high frequencies are highly susceptible to solid objects.  5.8GHz provides more bandwidth, so data rates are faster when signal strength is similar to 2.4GHz, but 2.4 will almost certainly

My inner nerd requires me to say that you meant 5.8GHz, not MHz.  If you’re gonna nitpick terminology, you better not make any mistakes yourself...

The Rogue hybrid is straight up garbage though. Try comparing against something like a Kia Niro (50 combined mpg) and your argument falls apart.

Regarding Ford specifically, a Ford Fusion is rated at 23/34, while an Escape is 23/30. Not *that* different, and people that want to sit higher and feel like they’re driving

Yes, I’m aware of how vehicle financing works, and well aware that people make lots of impulse decisions for cars they want.  Why are you telling me these things?

but for the high speed part he told me that sometimes they need to “warm up the tires to make it ride smooth,” which I’m not so sure I buy.

Why does them being the first to make this move make it dumb?  Someone always has to be the first in anything.  Ford is not *nearly* as vulnerable to a gas spike as they used to be, IMO.

From a cost and fuel efficiency perspective, small crossovers aren’t dramatically worse than a similar sedan, so do I just don’t see a huge risk here. A Ford EcoSport may be $5k more and have 10% worse fuel economy than a Fiesta, but it’s not like they’re scrapping the Fiesta and going all in on the Expedition Max

You think they haven’t accounted for that though?  Crossovers of today are as efficient as cars from ~10 years ago.  Small crossovers aren’t particularly inefficient these days, and will only improve further.

Young people are buying $40k crossovers like they’re going out of style, whether or not it’s a wise financial decision.  And the buyers of the $52k pickups come back and buy another one in 3-5 years, so that market seems pretty self-sustaining.

I suppose I should have re-phrased my initial comment to say that I was describing the hate from a consumer perspective. I can totally understand that it’s a risk, and makes them more vulnerable to market changes, so their debt is lower quality. From that viewpoint it totally makes sense-it just seems like a fairly

I mean, I almost bought a Focus RS, I’m totally with you.  But the ST/RS are niche, comparatively low volume, and probably cost them a shitload with all of the RS engine recalls and whatnot.  Profit margins on base Focuses (Foci?) are likely slim to none, and sales numbers are definitely declining: http://carsalesbase.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t totally get the hate regarding their decision to stop building sedans. It’s pretty clear that demand is still shrinking, they make a ton of different crossovers that are more popular than ever, and their profit margins on a $15,000 Fiesta are tiny.

I’m not saying I’m a fan of the decision,

...yes.  yes they are.  they’re everywhere.
