Chuck Goldsborough's team ran the Lexus GS and then IS300s in IMSA/Grand Am Motorola Cup/Koni Challenge/Continental Challenge for years. Tim Pappas ran a team of two IS300s in World Challenge Touring Car after that. An ISF was built for World Challenge GT but IIRC it only ran a couple races and was never fully…
Came in here to post this. Kudos.
That's also the case with the current BMW Z3 GT3 but at least it is FIA homologated that way and the M3 GTR was banned after a while.
If it's the size I want it to be there is no way it seats 5 comfortably, and if it seats 5 comfortably it must be freakin' huge.
They allowed the Mustang GT in Continental Challenge GS to have a 6 speed transmission years before the street car got one.
It wouldn't be the first time IMSA/Grand Am allowed Ford to race something that wasn't homologated or available to the general public.

Having seen The Ring, I'm a little bit scared that if I watch this the world will actually end.
I remember an IMSA International Sedan series race at Lime Rock in the early '90s where it rained early on and all the front drive cars rose to the top and then as the track dried out again the faster rear wheel drive cars slowly reeled them back in. It was brilliant fun to watch and made for a great race at the end.…
I wish we had a spec class for Mk. 1 MR2s here in the US. My first car was a 1986 sunroof MR2 followed by a 1987 T Top. Here they are classified in the SCCA's ITB class but overweight and uncompetitive.
