This is a great, great article, it does a great job of recapping the history and the issues, pointing out the stereotypes and the fallacies. Good use of video too.

Yeah, I figure it’s a no-lose proposition for the Canadiens. If they get the player, it’s like a decent trade for a good player at a reasonable NHL-comparable salary. If they don’t get him, if the Hurricanes match, the Canadiens don’t lose anything, they still have the cap space, they still can make a Joel Armia-type

Yeah but that’s missing a vital essence, a critical nuance. Claude Lemieux conjures up a sense of ‘perennial Conn Smythe candidate’. What’s the antonym of that? The reference to someone self-immolating and imploding in April?

Meanwhile, Glen Sather is all “I’m out!  See yaz...”

It’s been widely reported that the Senators couldn’t make candidates they liked take a job, or even interview, at the money they were offering, for both their head coach position and their attempt at creating a President of Hockey Ops-type role. The latter role has unofficially been shelved, with too many having

Oh great, now we’re all going to start with the Ontario puns...

Kadri (...) has a surprising amount of pure skill.

Kadri’s physicality can be a double-edged sword.

You got your star, greedy Gus.

the Gomez trade was so one-sided it’s not funny

Thanks for supporting my rant.  I feel 1% better now.

Agreed that goat soup is underrated.

It just makes a mockery of the draft process, why even have a draft if you operate that way? Why not just have everyone independently submit lists and doodles of things they like instead? “For my first pick in the ‘Best Band’ draft, I’m going to choose the poet who performs at my local coffee shop on Tuesdays.”

If there’s a chili out there that’s runny enough to be classified as a soup, I don’t want any.

That’s the unfortunate part about miso soup.  There’s lots of bad miso soup out there, and some people will have it a couple times and decide they don’t like it based on that.  I have an inexpensive sushi place in my town that does a daily special, they do good work, and their miso is okay.  After having nothing but

Truth. They drafted like they were drunk Jimmy Dolans.

Yeah, but Kevin bungled his draft with a disastrous reach in the second round. You don’t waste a second-rounder on gaspacho.

Freeing up that money and unloading Phil Kessel was a great move, although they get enigmatic Alex Galchenyuk back, so maybe tomayto tomahto.

Remember the August 16 stampede to sign Jimmy Vesey after four years in the NCAA?  Those were the days...
