High gas prices suck, but not as much as people think. I’m not really sure exactly why people hate doing the basic math, but I love setting up a spreadsheet, so I am probably the weird one.

The Pilgrims didn’t stay where they first landed (modern day Provincetown) either for what that’s worth.
That looks wicked fun! Love the color too.
I had an ND and it was surprisingly great for a daily. Compliant suspension. Great gas mileage. Fun in almost any situation. I could also stuff a surprising amount of stuff from Costco in it on my way home from work.
I actually prefer targas, over convertibles, however. I wish more targas were made.
Until you’re in stop and go traffic with no AC and the thing is overheating because those old V8 engines mostly just generated amazing amounts of heat.
I’d drive my Miata with the top down in winter as long as I was somewhat sure I wasn’t going to get showered in salty sludge. With a wool hat and the heat blasting it was pretty great.
This (and the convertible Evoque) are just terrible in every way.
I love that they’re doing this with the (nicer) lower trim version. I’m also a little surprised/confused because wasn’t there a ton of chatter about them finally rolling out some significant changes for 2023? I guess they still could, but that exterior/interior is (besides the superficial stuff) same as it has been…
If you’re not deafening pedestrians are you even safe?
My grandfather left behind three cars. One was a 76 Chevette. Nobody wanted it and despite being in excellent condition it wasn’t worth... anything. It was literally more trouble than it was worth to anyone.
I found a super fun car loan calculator here:
Not sure about where you are, but if something looks really illegal on a vehicle here, it usually means a cop owns it.
I liked that my state didn’t have paper plates. Then covid hit and getting plates was tough for a bit so they allowed them. Instantly tons of people were driving around with an alleged paper plate badly stuck to a window tinted so dark you couldn’t read the “plate” on a sunny day.
I’m not really mad at that.
But... google is telling me you are required to have a front plate in Texas? I won’t argue that there’s profiling going on (there always is), but isn’t a missing front plate something they can ticket you for?
Someone drove a car into a store near me. Before I had even looked at the attached photo I knew it was going to be an Altima. I think Nissan has really institutionalized the bad decision making people ending up in an Altima.
I love that you used the Subaru WRX photo of a 2008 (I think) WRX. That year was probably the shittiest both in styling (looks like an old Ford Focus hatch) and drivetrain (first year they stepped to from the 2.5l to the 2.0l).
His health insurer will get first crack at settlement (assuming he represents himself, otherwise his attorney will take a third). He may not miss much work, so he may not get much for that. Pain and suffering isn’t actually worth as much as people think. Could easily not be worth the lawsuit given he wasn’t hurt…
I really appreciate you writing about this. It sounds like Montreal might be the GP to try to attend in the future. I’ll be interested to hear about Las Vegas next year. Seems like the kind of spectacle that belongs there.
