This seems to be the crux of the whole discussion. These systems can’t handle these conditions well because they just aren’t meant to. They’re superior (cheaper while providing potentially “smarter” behavior) in many on road cases than even mechanical differentials without the limitations of a locked center diff, but

I was surprised this article didn’t mention that.  The Focus RS AWD system did the same thing where it’d go into limp mode if you hooned it on a track for a bit.  It made it clear that it was really meant to be a fun commuter car, which is totally fine.

That’s good to know and honestly makes the inclusion of the 4 Hi setting make much more sense.

This IS the successful application of modeling and computer controlled thermal management. These “clutch pack” type AWD systems were considered shit for at least a decade after they came out because they couldn’t handle abuse. Now they can be made reliable by forcing limp modes to protect them from excess lifing

I’m surprised the Focus RS wasn’t mentioned. The AWD system on that had a similar problem. Slipping clutches are okay for intermittent AWD type use, but it seems that a Torsen diff (or similar) will hold up to “abuse” better while not imposing the limitations of a fully locked differential.

My parents didn’t even help me move back and forth to college after my freshman year. I’d have to take a bus home, pick up a car, and drive back to school to get my stuff.

I only made it a few episodes into Lovecraft Country, but this is what I got from it.  Freedom to travel is something I take for granted and I’ve since noticed many stories (not because there are more stories, but because I actually notice them more I’m sure) describing issues like yours.

Pfizer is helping with mass production and distribution.  BioNTech did the actual development.  And Moderna was working on the vaccine months before warp speed was announced if that helps at all.  Maybe it’ll also help that millions of people will likely get the vaccine before you?

Normally we host 10+ people. This year it’ll just be the two of us.

You, David Tracy, are an argument for why state inspections are so important. Even though you’re great (at least pretty good) at fixing stuff, you’ve got a collection of horrifyingly unsafe vehicles. Now imagine people who think of cars entirely as appliances. Maintenance? What, like getting gas? MANY people don’t

The real story here is that the police really really tried not to do anything. Was that two or three warnings before they did much of anything about a warrant?

That’s going to be a weird situation isn’t it? The same people who have been downplaying and ignoring this virus are suddenly going to be the ones loudly demanding they get a place in the front of the line.

He did what his team told him to do.  They even took the points off his license because his team fucked up, not so much him.  At best, he could have known enough to second guess his team.

Do the turbo Mazda engines have less of an issue with carbon build-up?

In 1972 the Impala started out being sold with a 250 cu in straight 6. It was virtually un-drivable though. So the 350 V8 became the new base model engine which was tolerable. Of course, it only made 165ish HP.

Is there a citation on him driving people away? We started watching F1 this year and are big fans of Lewis on and off the race track.

If you call them sails do you understand? Traditional soft sails work the same way. You want them to be wing shaped ideally to create “lift” that ends up being thrust because the wing is vertical instead of horizontal.

That’s a great point about the parts value of older Teslas.  I wonder how many of the older ones are being bought just to part them out.

My industry is regulated a little different, but how does one just get to wing it on the materials/parts used for a production vehicle?

My employer makes aircraft engines. If they pulled something like this... Well there are a lot of protections of the individual so that usually the company just get fined or something, but for something like this someone might actually see serious legal punishment on an individual basis.
