Why do you see it as being callous? Giving someone eternal peace from the hell they're going through is actually a very compassionate thing to do.

Certainly, I believe that it should be discouraged, if only because of how it would affect the person's loved ones, but who are you to tell someone that they HAVE to live if they really don't want to?
