Prince Nico Mbarga's "Sweet Mother" is considered to be one of the great pan-African hit songs (I hear it at most functions I go to), along with "Malaika" (performed by everybody at some point) and "Zangalewa" by Golden Sounds (song was recently repurposed into Shakira's 2010 World Cup song)
