I agree, and I actually thought Martyrs was harder to watch, but maybe that was because I saw it a year earlier and am now jaded for life.

You obviously haven't seen this movie so you have no right to judge.  I think this movie offers up quite a bit of sympathy for the main character and his family.  It is a very ugly movie, but not a movie without merits.

Supposedly Thompson added Yeomon into the story late in the writing process.  Maybe that's why they took him out of the film?

Dave's voice is better suited to the weirdness of Pere Ubu than it is to the more straightforward rock of RFTT, but this still rocks.

Nothing from this review seems to say why it gets a "D".  I enjoyed the first film probably more than most, and I'm sure I'd enjoy this one.
