We would be if we didn’t also demand more power with every iteration of a model. In what universe should a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord have 300 hp? I get it, that’s what consumers want, but I imagine it’s also the reason why we haven’t seen fuel economy numbers improve substantially.
It takes a lot of energy to hurl a 5k pound SUV down the road at 70 mph. I’m not sure physics and economics will allow for too many 30+ mpg SUVs.
I see it as once electric cars become the dominant form of road vehicle, service stations will start to replace the gas pumps with electric charging stations when they go through the decade or so update that the major chains seem to follow.
As someone who is at least partially “Environmentally Minded”, I’m happy to see a push to electric vehicles and a ban on New ICE engine vehicles. The caveat here being that I, like most people, don’t know the full environmental impact of producing batteries and I KNOW that our power stations in the US are still…
Once these states realize how much money they’ll have to spend to make their electric infrastructure robust enough to support widespread BEV use they’ll change their tune REAL quick.
