And that's why I like Federalism. We know what the fuck we're doing. We're angry and bitter about it, but we just drink and bitch at the Sox instead

I'm going to be selfishly honest, I couldn't care less. Just balance the budget, don't tax me too much unless it has a tangible result and leave me alone.
Agreed. Dude forget what made him a good governor (wasn't going to get him elected, still voted for him) and tried chasing after that illusive southern vote
I might get hated here……but there's a reason I still love Romney
I'm fairly certain Georgia Dems would be our Republicans up here. We elect repubs to Governor postion to, and I quote the Simpsons, to stop the Legislature from funding the Perverted Arts
Good for them. They're retired, what you expect them to do
I can't speak to Arizona, obviously, but my own view of Republican government (at least in New England) is completely free of big Jesus.
I guess the option would be to not force people into the program to begin with, but as I'm sure you understand, that's a hard policy to enforce.
Agreed. I lean to the right, so I try to not express my opinion here because I'll be called Satan, but it's a very interesting viewpoint none the less.
Agreed, but when it comes down to the individual, we sure as hell know we'll spend as much as possible to continue
Only in Mass can you have a Republican Governor (let's be fair, he's a Dem in most other states) be among the highest ranked governors
Fair enough. My personal view (be it right or wrong) is that Govenor's tend to be more realistic in their political dealings (hell, my own MA elects Republican Governors)
Also, I will say, I rather enjoy the civil nature of this conversation. It's very hard to find stable and rational discussions here that don't devolve into yelling here.
To be fair, that speaks more to the health and poverty issues that plague Latino's and blacks (and SS should be raised into the 70's)
No, it's a slush fund. You pay today to fund to the people that retire now. You think the people that paid 70 cents back in the 70's can retire on that?
I really do apologize if this comes off as insulting, but was this a serious question? How else would you expect a retirement system to work?
Because, as my initial post suggested, SS is a hot button issue that will cause massive wildfire when touched. I agree it should be raised, but as noted, it's not the most politically sexy
+1 for the title
Nationalized health care has that issue. When it's the nation funding the bill, why the fuck will they care if a 78 year old with diagnosed colon cancer can get another ten years with operations and drugs?
Wait…….people bough homes years ago that have increased in value? And they prepared for retirement by saving money? Fuck……..that just sounds selfish for them to prepare for the future.
