Classic 80s opening credits tended to do a lot of work establishing characters and their relationships to each other, which was more or less a necessity in an era where people might starting watching mid-season, out of order, or so on. The visuals were therefore often a bit secondary.

I don’t know—there are action show theme songs from that era I personally like better, including Magnum P.I., Simon & Simon, The Fall Guy, and The Greatest American Hero.

I’m already thinking that with a show like this, different people are going to like best or be meh on different jokes, and that is OK.

Agreed.  Take your possum.

Absolutely.

Given that setup, no. You are just going to see the other characters going all the way to 11. So if you found them annoying already, I can’t imagine having much fun with the show in general. Indeed, I think simply enjoying the characters is intended to be a huge part of the appeal (for those of us who liked it in the

So far it feels to me entirely one-sided.  I interpreted their “moment” on watch in the third episode as fantasy by Peacemaker.  At least I hope so.

Piecemaker.

Peacemaker meeting Robotman in the field would be hilarious as inevitably both would think the other was a raging a-hole, without any self-awareness.

I think the best romantic comedies, including Roman Holiday, are arguably a bit more than just well-done empty calories to the extent they have something important, and unusual, to say about romantic relationships, and good lives in general.

My biggest source of hope at this point is Rodriguez apparently only directed one more of the final four episodes.

HBO Go was the service HBO channel subscribers used to get. In the U.S., it has been decommissioned and replaced with HBO Max.

Editor didn’t understand the phrase, “will crack like a safe holding a Faberge egg.”

And to be sure, using an ensemble of directors can sometimes have some costs in terms of individual episodes not necessarily fitting well, or just not being good in general. But I think a good showrunner can still guide the season to an overall positive result despite some individually off episodes.

Johnson’s Trump was actually a personal lowlight for me. I recognize its technical excellence, but in the current context I just can’t find that sort of characterization of Trump funny. There is an old distinction between satire and kidding, where satire is at root a kind of social criticism, and kidding actually

She married into one of the wealthiest families in Ireland in 1994, and that is when the first phase of her acting career stopped. She picked up again around ten years later, around the time of her separation. Probably not coincidences.

Her whole story really makes no sense in context without Aphrodite making it possible for Paris to seduce her. Indeed, her backstory is she was the daughter of Zeus and Leda (or perhaps Nemesis), as heroically exceptional in her own way as Hercules or other demi-gods. She was already captured once before, unsuccessfull

My sense is the consensus at the time is Pitt’s Achilles was not at all a good take on the character, but that was more a reflection of the ill-conceived writing and direction than on Pitt himself.

Ha. I was a big Greek mythology fan as a kid and desperately wanted to like Troy. I did not, and in particular thought the way they decided to tell the story was really disappointing, and yet—it was still glorious to LOOK at.

Yeah, what necgray listed as vices mostly work pretty well for me in the context of an over-the-top movie, for a character who then has to go even further over the top for his heel turn.
