I was curious how much 500 marks might be in today’s currency. Thankfully The National Archives for the UK actually has an inflation calculator of sorts, though I had to convert the marks to pence to pounds (800), and it spat out this:

Using only the Pearl White dye would be a good way to do this.  Expensive as hell, but effective.

At least to address your FFXIV I (relatively) recently went through the same thing. There’s only one raid for the main story line and that’s in-between beating the final boss of ARR (A Realm Reborn, the as game) and Heavensward. Other than that, you’ll end up doing dungeons/trials with 8 people for some of the bosses…
