I ask this in sincerity. As someone who has never grasped the concept of cutting off relationships over beliefs, what drives one to do that? I have many friends and family members whose beliefs are wholly different than my own, but I have never considered ending the relationship for it.

I think a more accurate summation of your statement would be that comedy is not for the hyper-sensitive. Progressive or Conservative, either side is likely to erupt if their echo chambers are threatened with topical humor.
