I used the smg approximately zero times outside of regenerators, so I didn’t really care about wasting the ammo. smg ammo was basically reserved as my “fuck up regenerators” stash. 

I never busted out the thermal scope to fight regenerators.

Just do a quick spray up and down with an smg and you’ll usually hit all of the parasites first try.
