You said it, I'm running it at 1980X1200 full detail levels on a machine built in 2007 with a video card from 08 and I'm getting a great frame rate. That's a crazy amount of optimization.
Can you imagine how amazing it would be if an impact like this occurs while JunoCam is active in 2016.
Unfortunately Curiosity does not have a mic. I think you where confusing that with the wind sensors, two of the three wind sensors where damaged during landing.
Good news, the Planetary Society is working to get a mic on the 2016 InSight lander (they where the group behind the mic on the polar lander and the sundials on the rovers).
Exactly, I remember a part of the Predator where you could feel it pulling up on the up-stop wheels as if it where trying to jump the track. It almost felt like they left some give between the upper running wheels and the lower up-stop wheels to give that sensation.
Oh, I've been on that coaster, half the fun is how out of control it feels. I remember as a kid all the rumors of pieces falling off it. It's a different kind of thrill from the super smooth steel hypercoasters we have now.
