So far this season it just seems as if Louie is trying to ride 2 horses with one behind. Is it a poignant, funny, somewhat linear, slice of life narrative or is it an absurdist take on the themes of relationships, getting older, etc… The mix hasn't always been successful. One thing's for sure, it really hasn't been

I think what I most have a problem with is that he's trying ride two horses with one behind. Is it an absurdist fantasy shrouded in metaphor and symbolism? Or is it a comical, episodic account of this characters life with plot lines that follow a more straightforward narrative. Sure you can have elements of both, if

Agreed…try choking up on the bat next time slugger.

Give us a kiss.

And for the record, I understand what Louie's been attempting in these episodes. The language barrier with the Hungarian representing his inability to communicate in his relationships. The stuck elevator metaphor, constantly failing to reach the higher level. The storm metaphor. The powerlessness he feels. I get it.

You're right, that is more germane. I was typing too fast, and merely dashed off the same misspelling as my friend the grammar duke.

I'm just throwing in a couple of differing perspectives on the show, I haven't gone after anyone on here for their opinions. Pretty, uh, pretty douche-y there pal.

If by 'nice' you mean patronizing and 'helpful' unpleasant.

Unequipped - hardly. But speaking of 'quips' yours fails to rise to the standard of the AV club comments section. It feels forced to me, and typical. Try harder next time.

See…my initial impression of you was correct…you're a sniveling, petty, patronizing, comment section troll…choke…on…my…ellipses…you sad Muldoon you.

Thanks for your official welcome to the comments section. I've actually been coming to the av club for many years, but haven't really felt compelled to toss in any remarks. Trading unsolicited tips: your tone is gratingly condescending and patronizing - 'and to the extent they're readable' really? - and it's

Briefly and in Amia's words… no good. I enjoy the surreal, delving, fantasy bits… but in these episodes it felt clunkily executed… the hurricane as metaphor for the storm in his life…yeah… no. And again,I don't find the relationships he has with women realistic and as I've said before he writes women

I like the denouement that he has the courage to have in his stuff, the quiet moments, the surreal bits too, just not the whole ' oh wouldn't it be funny if my wife was black' sort of crap… I enjoy the comments he makes about society, I enjoy his misadventures… I just don't think he writes women well… as I said there

Yes I watch the show, and having one guy he plays poker with does not mean a whole lot… and I don't think it's a funny or surreal choice, just a bad one. I understand what he says he went for, I just find it unsuccessful. And again, my overarching point is that he doesn't write female characters well… they're all

It's a stereotypical portrayal of the 'strong black woman'… for once I'd like to see people portrayed against type.

Sorry that's not how it went… she basically called him a loser, and threw it in his face that she had more money than him.. I understand that exes argue, but she's always been unpleasant, always rolling her eyes at him, she's just awful. Plus I think she's portrayed in a stereotypical way… she's the 'stick up her ass,

She's always unpleasant… called him a loser.

By making him feel bad that she makes more money than him, and basically saying that she was going to ignore his feelings and put them in private school? and basically just rolling her eyes at him every time she sees him? What's your definition of awful?

No one really discusses the fact that most of the female characters Louie creates are outrageously irritating. His ex-wife - inexplicably portrayed by a black woman - is simply awful and Pamela is an outright psychopath. It's not about them 'calling him on his shit' it's about them being horrible people. It's a flaw

and I say 'inexplicably' portrayed by a black womn, because a) his kids are white nd b) there's no context for it… other than a couple of appearances of Chris Rock on the show, it's clear that Louie doesn't hang out with black people, seems to have no particular affinity for black women, and only portrays black women
