In retrospect it feels like Carter/Bays kept going back to the "Ted mooning over Robin" well solely to keep the ending they had already decided on remotely relevant. But they did it so often that it went way past "this couple has chemistry that will not be denied" territory into unhealthy-and-deeply-sad land.
