I'm with you on the choice (I'd much sooner shop Lotus than Renault), but the R5 is an emotional choice. The Elise is also more reliable, lighter (I think) and more powerful than a similar Frenchie, the Peugeot turbo T16, but the price on one of those will make the R5 look like an absolute steal.
