I work for VW, the company is not hurting at all. Dieselgate was barely a scratch. I want to say profits might be down 10% compared to last year, but sales are up. Can’t remember exactly the yearly meeting was a few months ago.

These are kids; telling a trusted adult is not a “wasted step”, and it also allows her some accommodation from the school, so she doesn’t have to ride the same bus with him or whatnot. I live in the Philippines and 2/3ds of private vehicles on the road are either mid-size, 4-door lifestyle trucks, or their SUV counterparts (driven by the wives the the former’s drivers).

I think there are quite a few pickups that sell in Europe that you don’t really see in the US. You get tax breaks in the U.K. At least if you have one as a work vehicle. It’s very rare to see one that’s privately owned though.

I certainly can’t say anything about ‘anywhere’ (Australia comes to mind), but in Western Europe you can go for days without seeing a pickup truck of any kind, young or old, large or small, work or leisure.
