Because he’s biracial. Duh.

Michael Harriot is incredibly out of touch with white America. Literally no one in the white community, except for bikers and their associates, wanted to give these guys a pass and see them go free. They’re a danger to all Americans, even white people.
White and Hispanic aren’t mutually exclusive categories. You can be both. More than half of Americans who are Latino or Hispanic identify as white. That’s almost 27 million people.
“*Of course* it’s reasonable to question if the race of the victim was a factor in the attack.”
How dare they charge her with a crime she committed! Everyone knows that this is the standard: if someone starts shit with you, you get a free pass to do anything you want in retaliation. It’s clearly stated in Title 1 Section 104 of the He Started It Act of 1973.
To be clear, I only was commenting on the statistics Harriot mentioned and the articles he cited to support those stats.
I don’t care what her political positions are. I don’t know what her work history is, nor do I care. I don’t even care if she does a good job. Black, female, gay...that’s all I care about. But I still think we can do better. Next time I want a mayor who is a black, female, gay, disabled, trans, double-jointed Muslim.…
Reading what you wrote was an even bigger waste of time than reading a Michael Harriot piece. At least he gets paid to be a troll.
“I know statistically that poor urban whites are more likely to commit a crime than poor black people. I am aware that there is very little statistical difference between white-on-white crime and black-on-black crime.”
Apple and oranges. It would be one thing if we were comparing how the Chicago police department handled the Smollet incident and how it handled an incident involving a white woman, but we’re not. We’re comparing different police departments in different regions of the country.
I know that laws address some of the points I made, but it sounded like you hadn’t thought about those scenarios because you wrote, “Work appearance requirements shouldn’t impose limitations on your appearance outside of work.” But now I know we both agree that work appearance requirements sometimes do—and…
“I don’t see myself casting a white dude as the lead in my movie...I’ve seen that movie.” The reason that line probably is offensive to white people is because it implies that there aren’t any stories left to tell about white men. The world is always changing, and people will always have new stories to tell. No race,…
Slow news day at “The Root,” huh? It’s such a weird culture we have..always talking about the requirements for being black. We pressure each other to conform to these standards. We mock each other for not conforming, for not being “black enough.” But then we say, “We are not a monolith.” It’s bizarre. We spend so much…
There are some jobs where beards are a safety hazard. For example, beards can prevent respirator masks from forming a tight seal, exposing workers to toxic gases. Some people who work in oil or gas drilling operations can’t have beards for this reason. I believe it’s also true of firefighters.
Yeah...that made no sense. Why would calling someone racist make me uncomfortable? There’s plenty of racism out there. I see it all the time. I’ve experienced plenty of it. I have no problem calling people out on their racism; I do it all the time. But I’m a reasonable person, and I wait until I get all the facts and…
The only “more” I want to hear is all information relevant to the story—but that’s just because I’m reasonable, fair, and not one of those shoot-from-the-hip types.
Of course, in many cases it’s best not to move someone with head, neck, or back injuries. They may have been following protocol by waiting for the EMTs to arrive.
RaineyB1013, it’s a black-majority school in a black-majority town. Statistically it’s very likely that the other girl involved in the fight were black, as well as many of the school employees. You have no reason (well, at least not an intelligent reason) to conclude that the incident had anything to do with the…
GizmoKaka, just to be clear, Forest Hills Elementary is a black-majority school, and Walterboro is a black-majority town. It’s likely that a lot of the faculty and staff are black, too. It’s possible that someone, or multiple people at the school, mishandled the situation, but I’d caution people against jumping to the…
George, some of the South Carolina locals online are saying that the other girl slammed Raniya’s head into a desk and then repeatedly into a cement wall. In many cases, you’re not supposed to move someone with head, neck, or back injuries. It’s possible that waiting for an ambulance to arrive was the appropriate move…
