The answer to your questions are:
The biz wants to make up for lost revenue by proving rent stablized apartments, then wants to dump it all when they don’t need it anymore. This is exactly why people hate businesses and landlords: they get tax breaks for buying buildings that have RC or RS apartments in them. They then want to kick all those tenants…
Companies hold people to unreasonable contracts all the time. I wouldn’t shed any tears for the Plaza Hotel, just because they had to honor their contract.
or that MS unlimited-data plan where people were backing up TB hard drives. The terms were no longer feasible or realistic for the price she was paying.
I had exactly this same reaction. She may have been a terror in many ways, but it wouldn’t be surprising that a lot of passive aggressive behavior came her way as well. Complaining about things she actually had a right to would be just that, a passive aggressive bit of nonsense.
Living in the same place for 35 years isn’t abuse, it’s called making a home, regardless of how much you pay per month.
No, it’s not. They sold her something and she’s entitled to the agreed upon terms. Even if she’s a jerk.
That isn’t an abuse of the system, that is how the system works. It is a feature, not a bug. It is why, compared to the current rentpocalpyse, rent control is a much needed service that needs to come back.
That is still a contract there, sport. Sorry to break it to you.
I can understand the hotel resenting being stuck in a business deal that ended up being a poor bet. However, imagine if a billionaire signed a long term contract to rent space at the hotel now, and then that we had another period like the 1970s where New York was a relatively undesirable place to live in or visit. I…
I agree. I don’t like people who treat service staff badly, or who bring pointless nuisance lawsuits, but she had a signed contract for these things so I don’t understand why the hotel would think she shouldn’t get them.
Honestly, while it would’ve been nice to know she understood her luck in the lottery of life, I can’t really hate on her either.
How dare she push for something that she was contractually entitled to, how dare she. I’m sure she probably was an asshole in other ways, but I’m on her side in not letting them slide on those ones.
I think #1 is a wive’s tale. However, I’ve only had one kid (fellow commenter HippieChick), who turned 25 yesterday. She was born with a full head of hair—not THAT full—but no heartburn for me. Also, her hair never fell out. It just kept growing, and sticking out from her head in every direction. Because she grew hair…
Author here (IN THE GREYS). A couple points. First, then-Senator Obama’s support for a filibuster was based on his gripes with Justice Alito’s ideology. So far, it looks like any GOP filibuster would be based on...running out the clock on any nominee regardless of their beliefs. It’s OK for senators to disapprove of a…
