i use music controls pro. It works with many 3rd party apps like pandora, spotify, grooveshark, iheartradio and many others. i think it was $5 bucks but it's well worth the cost

why doesn't facebook just give users the option?

you are correct in that apple does remove applications that no longer apply (outdated) however if a developer changes an app that was once free to a paid app, you can always go back and download said app free of charge.

if you have skype, you can always use the desktop sharing feature. that seems to work good in a pinch
