It's convergent evolution. Carmakers are trying to solve the same problems - aerodynamics, weight, safety rules, visual appeal and fashion (ie. LEDs), and so on. So, cars trying to fit similar niches will often look similar, unless the carmaker deliberately adds extra styling which sets it apart in some way.
Vans don't have a reputation for high performance - because the vast majority of buyers just want something with low cost per mile - but Sprinters do have the option of Mercedes' 3.0 V6 diesel. This has already made them popular with the kind of fleet buyer that installs flashing blue lights.
