It's been awhile since I last saw Beatmania IIDX on the front page of Kotaku. It looks pretty nice, the cake that is.
I don't know if this qualifies as "a mess." I started playing immediately upon release, and other than some minor stutter and optimization issues (I had some odd artifacts in TXAA, so I switched to SMAA), I've been very happy. My game has been rock-solid stable— hasn't crashed once.
If you don 't think 4 fully fleshed out campaigns of one of the biggest franchises to have ever lived (two of which are completely remastered, one of which specifically for this-gen) isn't worth the price, then you're crazy and dellusional.
I just don't see how the thought process "Oh damn r/wow is down guess we should triple time it" would occur from this.

I think that, as a general rule, you're supposed do the testing before you release your system update.
