R1200GS BMW. See Jeep Wrangler description above - spot on. New BMW GS models are a hollow shell of what the original utilitarian go anywhere R80G/S was back in the early 80's. BMW is milking the image now. R1200GS or R1250GS are nothing more than barges that people with small weenies put a lot of lights on (mind you

Audi A8L with driver and very dark windows. Quattro, go anywhere, and have someone else drive.

Wow. Talk about rough around the edges. Unless the new owner is very well heeled indeed, and prepared to throw money at it, it looks like a massive undertaking. . I see nothing more than a massive Italian money suck here.

Big trucks are just plan stupid. Trucks are about utility. Ever tried to load a motorcycle or firewood in one of the current day behemoths that pass as trucks in the US? Or reach over the bed to grab something? Impossible in most trucks today.

VW is so tone deaf in the US it’s amazing they still sell them here. They make a great truck - but not sold in the US. They make the Californian, basically the Westy we want in the US, but no, not for us. And now the T-Roc is a no go.

I-26 between Asheville NC and Hendersonville NC. No emergency lanes, increased traffic from “Future I-26" brings in more I-81 Semi traffic. Combine that with touristas and rednecks in massive trucks. It’s a recipe for disaster daily.

Great tale. Thanks for writing it up and sharing. Here’s to hoping others have squirreled away future classics.

As an owner of 2.0 Audi, listen and listen well: Timing Belt, H20 pump, every 65k or 7 years or just write it off. Break the belt, it’s an “interference engine” so the valves get bent but good. Also expect to replace vacuum lines at a certain time... they just wear out.

Yeow. I cut my teeth and learned how to drive in a Fiat 124 Sport Spyder. Never wrecked mine... but came close a couple times, but saved it.

Fail. Wrong direction entirely. It looks like every other SUV on the road today, and just another mastodon to try to look over, around when trying to pass.

I sold VW/Audi and Porsches. There are always stories. The one that skived me out the most was a guy would come in, just want to sit in Porsche and say “as soon as my momma dies, I’m going to buy one of these...” He would come in every 2 or 3 months and say the same thing. I finally asked “is your mom sick?”

Garbage truck (Municipal) ran into my friends ‘71 Chevy Pick Up and hit it hard. They paid over $8k. I sure don’t want to live wherever you do.

For god’s sake, this is what Attorneys are for and how they make a living. Get one, pronto.

I’ve owned a couple Subaru’s over the years. Justy 4x4 that was epic fun to toss around, and paid $8k for it new. Later Subaru wagon needed a new engine, but it was a stalwart that had been abused.

bingo

Kinda reminds me of an issue we had here. There had been a drum circle playing for decades in a small park downtown. Got a drum, come beat it. Drum pounders of all shapes and sizes.

I sold VW during that time. 5 years. TDI “clean” was drilled into in sales training, all off sight training, and we were even taught to rub our fingers around the exhaust pipe to show how “clean TDI models were”

We need Electric trucks, cars and motorcycles. Scooters too.

Own a 2004 TT Quattro mit 6 speed. SWMBO has a Beetle Turbo Convertible 5 speed. The Audi is a GT car all the way; not fast off the line, but a joy from 40mph to 100+mph. The Beetle? Now the “dog car” as only $1000 was offered in trade.

I have owned 3 Audi’s in my life. Two 4000S Quattros, and now a 2004 Audi TT Quattro Coupe. All with manual.
