I doubt that's the reality, given that they've been caught getting healthy, adoptable animals from shelters and then killing them just "because." They also have an instant-kill philosophy regarding pit bulls.

They claim it's because they receive animals in the worst condition — but they've also been known to put down puppies and kittens (perfectly adoptable), and thrown the carcasses in trash bins illegally.

But PETA's adoption rate is insanely low. The article acknowledges that 100% adoption isn't realistic, but a 90% kill rate means they're not even trying. PETA's statement is a crock.
