Part of the problem here is the sunk cost fallacy. People already wasted 8-12 hours and now feel an obligation to keep up or what was the point? That’s why I mostly get excited for mini series and campy silly shows that I don’t need an ending for.

Dumping a whole season at once is stupid and ruins the dialogue that you get with a 1 episode per week. Hulu started releasing them 1 at a time and I hope Netflix does the same. I just don’t watch Netflix shows anymore because by the time I finish it, nobody gives a fuck about that show anymore.

For the most part, what you describe sounds like a normal sporting event with a younger audience (which I would expect for gaming). The chants and booing of opponents is not weird at all and was certainly expected from the non american teams.
