Apparently it was a toss up between St. Brown and Von Brown. He also admits to choosing his wife for “Selective Breeding Purposes”, as she is a 6 foot plus former volleyball player or something. He’s a pretty strange dude.

Honestly, I don’t begrudge the players making money. My issues are with the owners who find every way possible to squeeze a dim out of their fans.
Ok, I didn’t know that. Makes sense.
Agreed, to a point. Unless the 10 year/$300M offer they made was bullshit (It very well could have been) while $30M less than Philly’s offer, it was for 3 less years and more money per. Based on that he could have signed one more deal at 35-36 if still productive, as opposed to 38-39 with Philly, when another deal…
I probably should have said “professional basketball” as opposed the “The NBA”. He could absolutely sign in Europe or China and make decent money.
The majority of the replies here seem to be of the “Death to the NCAA!” variety, and seem to be saying all players should be getting paid for making their schools and coaches a fuckload of money. I agree with that wholeheartedly. My point was that based on the current system, he turned down multiple scholarships to go…
Were people placing wagers on your research? My best friend went to Pharmacy school, and during his research, was granted a patent for a new type of time release capsule. Do you know who owns the patent? His school.
Again, he made a choice. The NCAA is the devil incarnate, and it’s a great story, but he had other options. He chased his dream, and I admire that, but he knew he was a long shot, and he took that chance and it paid off.
So...he’s got a student loan. Who doesn’t? He was offered scholarships, and turned them down. He made a choice. If he ends up in the NBA I’m sure a $17,000 loan won’t be s problem.
I love baseball games too. I do go to games, I just avoid Friday nights, as I find it’s usually a bunch of 20 somethings treating it like happy hour, which is more annoying then threatening, and games against the Yankees generally get rowdy.
Funny enough, Gordimer Howe did something similar years ago. NHL players were trying to unionize, and knew they needed the best player in the league on board. When they approached him, he said “No. The team gave me TWO team jackets this year. They didn’t need to do that. They only had to give me one. They treat me…
The crowds are a big part of the reason I’ve cut way back on going to games over the last 5-10 years. I absolutely won’t go to football games anymore, and when I go to Mets games, I tend to go on weeknights and avoid local “rivalries” (The Yankees, Phillies, etc). That said, even Mets-Rockies on a Tuesday night in…
I can’t even compare our misery to the Cubs. We’ve at least gotten a championship in my lifetime. I know what you’re saying though. At least the Cardinals are in St Louis and you guys own Chicago. Just imagine if they lived upstairs.
Most Met fan families can usually trace their roots back to the Giants or Dodgers, both of which came with an intense hatred of the Yankees. In my case, I was a baseball loving Queens kid in a single parent household. My entire extended family were Yankees fans, but my mother wasn’t into baseball and Shea was 10…
There’s something special about being a Mets Fan that builds character like no other. For one, you’ve got the ever present team from The Bronx with their 27 Championships and their fan base who remind you of it constantly, and question your sanity for NOT being a Yankee fan. There is that “Lovable Loser” sentiment,…
If they were a President they’d be Abroham Lincoln.
I don’t have to sneak it in. They allow you to bring in sealed bottles of water.
So can I. But if I can park just as close to the stadium, and often closer, for free, why in the fuck would I choose to pay?
And you sound like an asshole.
