Gotta have some way to use up extra CPU/GPU cycles. The globe isn’t going to warm itself!

Well that’s a great way to get my 3 year-old to scream at me. Actually, he’ll stop mid-sentence and start yelling if he thinks I’m not paying attention, or if I’m in any way not doing everything he wants RIGHT NOW. Or as he says “You’re not following the right RULES!” Still working on firmly letting him know that he…
Seems risky. Low quality diapers can be more leaky.
Just came back from a road trip with the kids, and damn. Hadn’t realized that not having our toilet seat and having to use large public/hotel toilets would set our littlest two back so far. The entire last two days (about 14 hours in the car total) consisted of regular half-hour cries of “It’s going to come out, IT’S…
The argument against cancel culture is just like political correctness. I mean, I guess it’s all just about political correctness, but they want to act like liberals have just invented some silly new thing that conservatives can deride them for.
I grew up Mormon so I’m used to a specific, very boring style of preaching, but good hell her whole screed was ridiculously over-caffienated. She needs to lay off the energy drinks. I mean the whole “Satanic pregnancies” was downright horrifying, both in and out of the light of the evangelical crusade against…
My two youngest boys (of several kids) are 3 & 5. It’s always interesting to notice which developmental milestones the younger one is going through that the older one just went through a couple years ago. Right now he’s starting into his attachment to mommy phase, and I as the dad am getting pushed off to the side a…
I remember back in the 90's getting a portable CD player that came with a paper in the box warning that using headphones while driving is illegal in some states. It being the early/mid 90's before I had internet I didn’t know a good way to look that up for my state at the time (at least, not a way that was worth the…
For the love, lift up the seat before you stick the brush in there, otherwise you’re going to drip on it when you pull the brush back out!
It’s the OnePlus 7Pro, which they famously advertised by dunking in water without causing issues, while also saying they were skipping the IP rating to pass the savings onto the customer. So, there’s no promise there, just a “well we tried it and it looks like it was OK!”
I’ve never damaged my screens very much — with or without screen protectors — but I did have an incident with my current phone where the sp no doubt saved the screen from some serious damage. While hiking with a friend, he crossed through a stream that was deeper than I was comfortable wading through. I tossed my…
Just to add to the other voices: Can confirm, this works very quickly. Only one of our several kids was a hard-core binky enthusiast. We had quite a few backup binkys, with a special spot in the kitchen drawer so we’d always know where to find one in an “emergency”. We had many late-night runs to Walmart followed by…
Seriously. I really wanted to live long enough to at least see all my kids graduate from high school, but I also really want to eat this today.
Lately I’ve been seriously annoyed by SUVs (Cadillac, I think, but I’m not sure) that have red LED strips running along most of the top of the back side of the car, and also along most of the left and right sides. It’s ridiculously bright, and it’s surprising how hard it makes it to see when you’re right behind them.…
I have a wife and two daughters (all with long hair), so we have a lot of clogged drains. I’ve never used Drano (or other brands of the same product) at all. I’ll normally get a zip tie and cut notches into it, then slip that down in the drain and pull it back out. It pulls out some nasty crap, and it gets the job…
This isn’t really the same thing, but I recently purchased a movie on Blu-ray that came with a code to redeem for a “digital copy” (I hate that term, since anything that comes on a CD, DVD or Blu-ray disc is already a digital copy, but whatever), and when I went to use the code I was told it was already redeemed.…
As a Site Reliability Engineer, I have this setting enabled in FF so I can use it for testing website and not have to worry about clearing cache/cookies etc. Been using it this way for a few years now.
I’m not a fan of the way they have things organized. There was a Family Friendly category, but it was pretty far down the list, right after 3 different categories of different kinds of shock-horror and raunch-coms, and right before another horror category.
I love the idea of this, and it fits right in line with the whole point of free OTA TV, but I feel like the time and money to gather the inexpensive materials kind of defeats the purpose.
The only reason why this is sometimes tricky is that it seems that when the current app has frozen up I can’t get the Apple menu to respond to be able to get to the Force Quit item in the menu. The simple fix for that is that you can just Cmd+Tab to a different app (or click on the desktop background, if it’s visible),…
