The notion that the Cards were ever a big free agent destination for players has been overrated. Even in the LaRussa years, their biggest stars were guys they developed (Pujols, Molina, Wainwright) or guys they acquired in trades who stuck around (McGwire, Edmonds, Rolen, Walker, Holliday).

Yeah in that sense I agree. Cards fans in general are insanely spoiled by how well the team has done over the last 20 years and just overall historically. Pretty much anything less than a WS appearance is a “disappointment” to a lot of them, which is absurd in a 30 team league.

EA didn’t decide not to fight The Show. After they bought the exclusive 3rd party rights for the NFL, 2K countered by doing the same with MLB, which effectively killed off the MVP series. EA released a couple more versions as NCAA games, but they probably didn’t sell enough to keep going.
