I think the race is closer than the media is making it out to be, but I also think Biden will come out on top. Trump caters to his hardcore base but doesn’t do much in the way of courting new voters. I’m also worried about what he’ll do when he loses, since he’s been planting the seeds of a “rigged” or “stolen”

Well sure. But GM needs to prove it, at this point. I wont believe they truly intend on making an affordable, attractive, useful EV for families until they actually do it.  Hummer and Lyric are too niche to give me any hope yet.

For sure! It’s just that if your basic appliance car costs $40k, its a hard sell. And yes I know they can be actually had for closer to 30k these days.

The “B” not the “M”.  But same argument.

Can we start a go-fund-me to get Erik a udemy course on basic business/econ so we can stop with all these garbage articles with this toddler-level business intellect making stupid comments about how companies are spending their money wrong?

He batters GM for dumping money into new stuff = pitchforks and torches

He has some bull shit vendetta that he thinks other people want to be constantly reminded about.
Fact is, GM is killing it. They have some of the best selling CUVs in every class, the Corvette is a weapon, their trucks are killing it, their SUVs are king, the Hummer debut knocked it out of the park, their future EV

Dude, please find another job.

For GM, in other words, $4.5 billion isn’t pocket change but it also isn’t much of a stretch

honestly, his takes are fucking brutal.

He doesn’t even know.  He can’t comprehend the “M” and just sees 8 dollars and 4 dollars and thinks 4 dollars isn’t much.

Why is he even a staff writer at this point.

Oh Erik, let your childhood experience in a dismal space shuttle Chevy Lumina van go already

The year 2020 has turned out to be in part an extended marketing push by GM to convince everyone that it’s all about electric now.”

Could someone else at Jalopnik please be the one to write about GM. Anyone at all.

Maybe I’m not sure either, TBH.

$4.5 billion will be spent over a few years so maybe $1b per year. Still, that is spending 10% of profits on EV research, development, and manufacturing on top of their normal ICE R&D. For a big corporation, that is a pretty bold move.

For GM, in other words, $4.5 billion isn’t pocket change but it also isn’t much of a stretch.”

What are you even talking about?

I was not prepared to be this impressed.

I say this as a dyed-in-the-wool environmentalist: at some point, we need to get people who don’t give a shit about the environment to also buy EVs. We need to get everyone (or at least most people) driving vehicles that aren’t powered by fossil fuels if we are to have a hope of preserving at least some of the Earth’s
