American’s having been buying Chinese made products for decades.  What makes you think we’re going to stop at cars?  Americans only care about their country and it’s industries in-so-far as it doesn’t impact their pocketbook.

There’s sort of a secondary reasoning behind this. More software is being added to vehicles every day, and all that development work isn’t being done for free. In addition, the hardware required to run all that software is increasingly expensive. The problem is, the customer doesn’t want to pay up front for software

I don’t disagree.  I was just pointing out that Fain’s predictions about this contract finally getting the foreign OEM’s to unionize is hyped up BS, because it’s not going to happen.  Throughout the strike, support for the UAW from the general public was high (at least according to polls), but at the end of the day,

And if Toyota’s scared enough of the UAW that it’s voluntarily giving workers more money, just think how much more workers could get if they joined the UAW.

I am very curious to see what happens next with the UAW. If you’re a Toyota, Honda, BMW, etc. employee, I’m not sure how you look at these tentative deals and not at least consider unionizing your plants.

Agree. Automatic headlights really shouldn’t even have an on/off option. The amount of people I see in SUV’s driving around with just their fogs or DRLs on at night is too damn high. The taillights don’t light if the headlights aren’t on... but I guess whatever makes people think they look “cool”.

Are markups still a thing in some places? I leased a 23 Bolt EUV Premier Redline with every single available option including Super Cruise for $0 down, $405 a month almost a year ago now.  On of my favorite cars I’ve had.

Neither is sitting in a corner with your arms crossed screaming no until you get what you want.

To be fair, Musk is doing what every billionaire business owner does, only he’s willing to say it publicly.

It could mean a multitude of things. Delays in capital due the the uncertainty of the UAW strike. Potential improvements to bring the price of the trucks down (especially given the interest rate environment).

COVID is a weird one because deaths on a massive scale were relatively short lived, and the impact of COVID was economically muted by astronomical government spending (only time will tell if we will eventually pay for this).

I don’t know if that’s a shot at me or not, but I totally get why people like gas.  I’m also not going to pretend like “America being big” is the cause for the red state/blue state politicization of EV’s because that’s not what it is.

The big problem with left foot braking is that two many left foot brakers rest their foot on the brake pedal and don’t realize they’ve got it resting just hard enough to engage the brake lights. So now you’re flying down the highway at 70 mph with your brake lights permanently lit up, and no one has any idea when

Let’s not try to pretend that there aren’t huge swaths of red voters who live in blue areas that will avoid EV’s till their last dying breath because Orange Daddy told them to.

There’s a new Bolt coming (yes it was reactionary, but it’s coming). There’s also plenty of good reason to try to go after pick up trucks. This has been discussed ad nauseum in comment sections all over this site.

You can order it, but it’ll be months or years before you get it because Rivian isn’t producing the cheaper low level vehicles right now.  OP said Tesla and Rivian were going to own the segment, which is also being dishonest.  You’re not going to “own” the truck segment with a truck that doesn’t exist, and a luxo

2013 Nissan Maxima.  Only non-GM car I’ve ever owned, only car I’ve ever had severe mechanical issues with.  Entire engine had to be dropped and replaced 3 months into ownership and the car was never the same after that.  Also, the CVT was awful.

Sure it does, but good luck getting one at that price.  And even if you did, that’s still quite a bit higher than the average ATP of a pick up today.

And if that doesn’t happen, it’s highly likely that climate-related disasters will only continue to get worse, displacing or killing millions of people.
