wait, you mean the 4 things (something you want/need/wear/read) means one of each? OK, then. In my family, we only exchange one gift each, 2 of one is really inexpensive.

If you are able to be there, make the appointment & bring him. If you are not able to be there, tell him flat out that you are concerned for his health & that you want hime to be here as long as possible—and don’t be afraid to use the guilt card.
