It makes me sad that instead of being glad that women are stepping up to the beat of their feminism, we're sitting here tearing apart what they say because it's not EXACTLY the flavour of feminism we like. Or that the speech is not coherent enough to be inclusive and flawless. It's like we want to find a flaw and say

While I appreciate viewing a statement under a critical lens, I think all of the back and forth below inhibits organized feminism that can actually make change. It is paralysis by overanalysis in action. Rather than simply rallying behind, "equal pay for equal work" you parse it down to nothing. We need to fight in

we have fought for everybody else's equal rights

Honestly the best moment of the Oscars.

Maybe instead of picking apart a speech about equal rights we could all put this energy towards fighting for equal rights. How is discrediting those who are asking for equal rights going to get us ahead in the fight for equal rights? You don't kick your teammates when they're trying to help you win the game.

I have to say what makes me angry about so many of the comments here is...that it's never enough. You all like to shake your heads and wonder why women, young women, in particular, don't want to stand up and be counted in the name of feminism. Patricia Arquette spoke out for women tonight. And we could be standing up

It was fantastic! You might wanna also check out Lady Gaga's incredible tribute to Julie Andrews and The Sound of Music. That is going to be all over the news, too, and with reason!

How difficult a concept is equal pay for equal work? If one man were being paid less than another man for doing the same work (merit raises notwithstanding), such a thing wouldn't be tolerated. So why is paying a woman less than a man for doing the same work tolerated? Is it because these employers expect these women

I hate to criticize because I agree with the message...I mean, wage equality, duh. But I don't like way she framed it. First of all we must remember that equal pay for women won't mean "wage equality". Because there'd still be a serious racial wage gap. And she said "we've fought for everyone else's rights" and I

We NEED a buddy cop movie with these two.

Early prediction: The Meryl Yes Yes Yes gif will become an internet classic.

I wanted to see the camera pan to all the white male actors shifting uncomfortably in their seats over that one.

As much as you can 'like' or 'not like' someone who's a celeb I like Streep and don't like J. Lo but at this moment I want to hug them both; especially for the pointing and the 'home run' motions. And Arquette as well, who did a lovely interview on NPR a few weeks ago. I'm not watching the Oscars but I think this was

I already posted my cat story, so... The Instant-Patricia-Arquette-Fangirl line starts here.

!!!!!!!!!

OH TO BE A FLY ON THE MERYL STREEP/JLO WALL.

Fuck Yeah!!

I was bowing to the television. Mad, mad props.
