I think Chibs just says, "We're doing this" and never stops to ask, "Why are we doing this?"

Believe it or not it was because of Doctor Dolittle in 1967. Doctor Dolittle was one of the most merchandised movies of all time (Per Wikipedia they accompanied The release with 50 licensees ready to spend $12 million in advertising. Ten thousand retail stores carried 300 promotional items from the film that amounted…
“You probably won’t be surprised to learn that some of those jokes seem at least a little bit shitty today.”
'Return to Oz' gives it a run for its money.
“Like hardtack, I assume.”
Just chiming in to say that this is an extremely thoughtful, well-written piece. Even having not watched the movie since I was...what, 11?...I found it a total joy to follow along.
Woulda loved to have this season finale to feature the Unnamed Ad Man’s takes on this year’s Super Bowl commercials (damn that was some hyperexcessive cross-brand synergies going on there), but thank you for this column anyway. Always appreciate the Teti angles on the ol’ NFL.
Thanks for slumming it with us jamokes again this season, Teti! It was a welcome and exciting surprise to see B&T pop back up on the AV Club feed.
Robin is Kermit’s nephew. I expect that kind of mistake from the AV Club staff, but commenters should know better.
So much of what I do comes from sight, smell, and touch. Baking is a highly reactive art just as much as it is a science, and the only way to get good at that is practice. I can’t write that kind of magic down for you guys, which is why I stress the fact that it’s okay to make mistakes, enjoy the imperfections, and…
I really enjoyed that, it was probably my favourite Chibnall episode. I loved that despite having two huge revelations, it felt a lot less rushed that other stories that cram in too many ideas to negligible effect (seriously, how much was going on in Orphan 55?).
-I kind of complained about 13 not being fully developed as a character yet and being more quirk than anything else but this episode was pretty much everything I was hoping to see in her. A little darker, a little snappy, a little flummoxed and worried. I’m also excited that some of her character’s mystery is…
Yeah it was an utterly amazing episode. The Jack return definitely kept one from overthinking Ruth until it was time for the big reveal.
I have no idea where this is going but the acting chemistry between the two Doctors was electric. This brought out a darker and more doubting side in Whittaker’s Doctor that was really interesting.
Oh yeah, much more sanitized. I was shocked when actually watching the film in how adult it was.
I'm going. But first I gotta stop by Walmart and pick up a bunch of hangers.
Like the cast, will always be a fan of Stewart, but the trailer was underwhelming. The two best parts were Byrne licking Carrell’s face and the last clip of him calling out her lie. If there’s more of that darkness in this (and Carrell doesn’t end up falling in love with the daughter), could definitely be solid.
Major problem I see is losing pages.
Though pretty much all versions of the Doctor have had a knack for inventing, it’s a quality that’s been central to the 13th Doctor right from the very beginning.
Oh...I just came here to talk about the very same thing! Previously, I had only caught the show in snatches and I had written it off as a mild satire on small town banality and the Midwest.
