Right. If establishment is bad, then why are you including PP? If not, then how is throwing that at Hillary a thing? I think he does mean it in a bad way, which doesn’t make me feel good about him.
It certainly sounds like Bernie is saying the establishment is a nasty term representing the status quo. Hillary has had more name and power, but Bernie’s been around just as long. Perhaps those groups are endorsing her because she’s turned her longevity into power? Even though people might hate that word too, power…
They’re both politicians. How are they not of the same group?
I love Bernie, I do, but he’s throwing the word “establishment” around the same way people throw “socialism” around... these are not dirty words. PP IS established. It’s good at what it does, and THANK GOD. There are parts of people involved with the establishment that are very bad, yes, but it’s not an automatic…
True story: the night Bowie died, someone played “My Heart Will Go On” on the jukebox at my local pub. I definitely had the thought, “Why couldn’t it have been Celine biting it instead of David Bowie???”
No it doesn’t.
Having grown up Catholic and coming from a big Catholic family, the Church’s teachings and our religious traditions are a lot more than source documents and expert advice. There are plenty of Catholic traditions that are part of my life even though I haven’t been a believer for years. Taking an intellectual approach…
I went to Catholic school, kindergarten through senior year of high school. So yes, I know what it “actually” teaches.
Well yes. I’ve many family members and friends who are practicing Catholics to varying degrees. Most of them seem pretty good at using their own moral compasses in deciding which of the Church’s rules they’re going to follow and which ones they’ll casually ignore. I have cousins who will absolutely not have sex before…
The Catholic church teaches that women should be pumping out as many children as humanly possible, so I’m going to stick with my initial statement. When they start allowing birth control and divorce, then we can talk.
Right? For such a misogynistic institution, a lot of the female heroes are exactly the opposite of what the Church says women are supposed to be like. Joan of Arc? Judith? Mary Magdalene?
This makes me super happy I do not drink milk. Ew.
Word. Especially on the last point.
We already have people smoking in public in Massachusetts (well, Boston at least). That wouldn’t be new.
Well, YES. I think most people are just afraid, but they either don’t realize it or won’t admit it, so ANGER.
“I am kinda irritated about ageism.” That made me laugh (the tone, not the content).
Anger is such a specific emotion. I feel extremely unpleasant feelings towards some of the subjects they mentioned, but anger isn’t quite the right one. Like, school shootings make me feel frustrated and depressed, but not really angry. By their measure, I don’t care about anything at all.
That movie is fantastic. Great book too... highly recommend.
